Read MoreHide Full Article
Amazon.com Inc.’s (AMZN - Free Report) film production division, Amazon Studios, has green-lit the third season of its original dramatic TV series — The Man in the High Castle. The release date for the season has not yet been decided.
The first two series of The Man in the High Castle are already available on Prime Video in the U.S., UK, Germany and Austria via the Amazon Video app on TVs and connected devices like mobile, Fire TV, and online at Amazon.com/originals. Prime members can view the shows at no additional cost.
Over the last one year, shares of Amazon have been steadily treading higher. The stock has returned 18.32% compared with the Electronic Commerce industry’s gain of 11.27%.
About the Series
The show is based on Philip K. Dick’s 1962 novel. The series imagines that America lost World War II resulting in a dictatorial rule of the United States by Germany and Japan. This created fear, oppression and inequality among the American citizens.
The series has been developed by Frank Spotnitz, while Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, Richard Heus, Dick Hackett and Daniel Percival are the executive producers. Also, Eric Overmyer will serve as the showrunner and executive producer for this new season.
Amazon claims that the first two seasons of Man in the High Castle were its most-streamed original series. Joe Lewis, Head of Comedy and Drama, Amazon Studios said, “As timely as ever, the exploration of characters at a dark point for humanity has provided incredible stories for two seasons.”
The second season had an average customer rating of 4.6 stars, indicating that itreceived great positive response.
Our Take
The increasing popularity of tablets, smartphones and web-connected TVs has enhanced online-video viewing and continues to attract consumers as well as leading technology companies, like Alphabet (GOOGL - Free Report) and Apple Inc. (AAPL - Free Report) .
Therefore, Amazon is leaving no stone unturned to boost its digital media sales and attract new viewers, by adding varied series and movies to its content lineup and making Prime Video more attractive.
With intense competition in online video content, majors such as Netflix, Inc. (NFLX - Free Report) , Hulu and HBO, are seeing substantial success. It is natural for Amazon to compete against them with successful acts of its own. These new shows are expected to help Amazon penetrate further into the growing streaming market, at a much faster rate.
